New signing Martin Woods has pledged the best years of his career to Shrewsbury Town after admitting he has "unfinished business" in England.

The 29-year-old midfielder got off to a scoring debut in Saturday's 6-0 opening friendly win at Market Drayton.

And the Scottish playmaker, who has signed a two-year deal at the Greenhous Meadow following a season at Ross County, says he is making up for lost time after missing the last three pre-seasons in a row.

"With the couple of summers I had out injured, it feels as if these two seasons coming up have got to be my best," said the Scot.

"It's just good to be back in England again. I was in Scotland last year and really enjoyed it but it feels as if I've got unfinished business in England."

Woods missed the pre-seasons in 2013 and last summer through injury and uncertainty over where he would be playing.

"This is my first pre-season in four years because I signed for clubs later on in the year, so this has been a big one for me," he said.

"If you've done a pre-season you're hitting the ground running, which is really important."
