Town stars back Jackson for hotseat
Shrewsbury Town players Connor Goldson and Ryan Woods say they would be delighted to see current manager Mike Jackson given the job for next season.
Jackson took over the reins until the end of the season following Graham Turner's resignation in January and he has expressed his desire to remain in the role for a longer term.
The club has yet to confirm if he will be given the chance but Goldson credits Jackson, who was the club's first-team coach and reserve team boss prior to his managerial promotion, with helping to develop his game.
And the Wolverhampton-born ace, who has started every one of Jackson's 17 games in charge, says the club's likely relegation should not be held against him given his late arrival into the role which came shortly before the transfer window closed.
Goldson said: "He's helped me massively over the years and he has made me into a proper defender.
"He also put me straight back into the team when he came in as manager and he's shown confidence in me.
"No-one can blame him for the league position because he has just been given a bunch of players and (told) 'go on, all the best' basically.
"So if the chairman decides to give him another season where he can bring in his own players and have his own team then so be it. I am right behind him."
Woods, who had worked with Jackson in the youth team and reserves before establishing himself in the first team, added: "Of course I'd like to see him get the job.
He's a great man and a good manager and he just needs that chance I think."
