The Town left-back, who captained the team in yesterday's 5-2 defeat at Preston in the absence of injured skipper Tamika Mkandawire, said: "I'm just heartbroken really.

"To be in the situation we are in, personally it's embarrassing. You don't become a footballer to be in these situations.

"I have never had this before and I don't intend to go through it again. It's a horrible feeling.

"It's very unlikely that we will stay up. It is out of our hands. We need to win both of our remaining games and one out of three teams not to win any.

"It is still possible but it is going to be very difficult."

Asked what had gone wrong this season, he added that poor personal performances from players had played a big role in the team's struggles.

He said: "It is not just yesterday. I don't think enough players have performed to their maximum all season.

"And if you don't get seven, eight, nine players performing and winning their battles every week then you aren't going to win games."

He added: "I don't think we have scored enough goals, I don't think we have won enough matches. It is not just strikers (who have under-performed). It's a whole team thing.

"Everyone has to look at themselves and think 'have they done enough?'

"There's probably not many that can really hand on heart say that they have performed as well as they could do or should do all season."
