Gozie Ugwu ready to spark up Shrewsbury Town
New signing Gozie Ugwu is ready to hit the ground running for Shrewsbury Town against Port Vale tomorrow.
The 20-year old striker arrived at the Greenhous Meadow on-loan from Championship side Reading yesterday.
And he is raring to go if called upon against Micky Adams' Valiants this weekend.
He said: "I am looking forward to it. I always hope to start but if (I have to come) on and make an impact instead I'd be prepared to do that too.
"I haven't played against Port Vale before but I have watched them and I know a bit of what they are about.
"Vale Park can be a feisty place but I am prepared. I like to score goals. I am a quick, powerful, pacy forward with an eye for goal. I want to help the team, score goals and just work hard for the club."
Ugwu, a product of Reading's youth academy, has yet to make his Royals first team debut.
But he has acquired experience of Leagues One and Two as well as the Conference National in loan spells with Yeovil, Plymouth Argyle and Ebbsfleet United.
And he believes those spells will stand him in good stead for another run of games in the English Third tier.
He said: "I have had a bit of a taster in League One already. I know it can be quite fast and quick-paced but I am prepared for it.
"I scored goals at Yeovil and went to Plymouth but it was a bit interrupted by injury. But I am fighting fit now and hopefully I will keep scoring goals as I have started doing."
Ugwu had been on Town manager Graham Turner's radar for some time and the player said he was pleased the deal had now been done.
And he has heard good things about the Shrewsbury set-up from Reading team mate Michael Hector who spent a brief spell on-loan at the Greenhous Meadow last season.
Ugwu said: "I knew little bits about Shrewsbury because I spoke to Michael Hector before I came down here and he spoke very highly of the club and the people here.
He said it was a good club and he hopes I do well."
Meanwhile Shrewsbury Town's youth team won through to the final of the Midlands Youth Cup last night with a 2-1 win over Grimsby Town. They will now take on Lincoln City in the final.
