Ballard to take on striking role

Market Drayton boss Martyn Davies will give Matt Ballard the chance to fill the striking shoes of Stefan Walker at Chasetown tomorrow.

Walker suffered an horrific leg break at Prescott Cable last weekend after a clash with the home keeper.

Ballard played up front in the midweek Integro Cup clash at Stafford Rangers, where Drayton lost on penalties, and is likely to get the nod again tomorrow.

“He is a different kind of striker, more of an aerial threat and someone who works really hard,” said Davies. “I think he can cause them problems.

“We also have Stefan’s mate Andre James who is getting nearer to a return, although Saturday will be too soon. We will see how things go up front and then if we need to do something we will.”

Chasetown have made a poor start, picking up just four points from five Evo-Stik West games, although Drayton have just two more.

But Davies, who should also have Charlie Knowles available, is taking nothing for granted.

“They have some ex-Drayton players so that always adds a little extra spice,” he said.

“They haven’t started brilliantly but they have a good manager and won last Saturday and again in the cup in midweek.

“We played really well on Tuesday considering we were struggling for numbers.

“They edged the first half but second half we were really good and pushing for the winner.

“Hopefully we can take that into the game tomorrow.”
