On what was a quiet day in the division with some teams involved in the FA Vase, a brace from Shane Thomas and a first Town goal for Tom Fallon saw the Shropshire side run out 3-1 winners against Old Wulfrunians.

Thomas’s strikes saw the forward take his tally for the season to seven.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old former Shrewsbury and Telford academy player Liam Trewartha also impressed for Newport on what was his debut. The result leaves Town sitting fourth in the table with 10 points from their opening five games.

Elsewhere in the division, Telford Juniors slipped to a 4-2 home defeat against Allscott.

Meanwhile, in the North West Counties League Division One South, FC Oswestry Town slipped to a 3-0 defeat away to Cheadle Heath Nomads.

The north Shropshire outfit fell two goals down inside 10 minutes and struggled to recover from there despite being at full strength and fielding five new signings.

Richard Tindall and Stephen Kirby were the men to put Cheadle ahead.

Dave Howarth then had a shot cleared off the line for Oswestry after he rounded the keeper.

Liam Parry also fired agonisingly wide before Kirby wrapped up the win for his team midway though the second half.

Oswestry need time to gel, but boss Matt Burton will still be hoping for a big improvement in the coming weeks.
