Martyn Davies' Market Drayton Town still searching for win
Winless Market Drayton Town will look to lift themselves off the foot of the Evo-Stik First Division South tomorrow with victory over Corby.
Drayton hit hit rock bottom on Tuesday night after a 2-1 defeat at Gresley.
Two second-half goals in as many minutes by man-of-the-match Reece Morris and the towering Matt Melbourne sank them at the rain-lashed, appropriately named Moat Street ground.
Drayton pulled one back on 83 minutes through sub Andre James and manfully tried to force an equaliser but ran out of time – which, sad to say, made the result about right.
A good case can be made that, on the strength of previous performances, Town are undeserving of their new lowly ranking.
Tuesday’s performance was not good by any means but it must be said that manager Martyn Davies’ men battled hard in horrendous conditions and were again unlucky at key moments, none more so than in a short spell before Greseley’s 75th-minute opener.
Tomorrow’s clash with Corby is timely and could even be the stroke of luck Town really need. The visitors are only two points ahead – and victory could also boost hopes for what appears a tougher home tussle on Tuesday with neighbours Newcastle Town.
