The Bucks host FC United tomorrow sitting sixth in National North after Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Darlington.

Cowan, who has excelled in his first season in charge at the New Bucks Head, flirted over the play-off subject after his side’s heroics at Solihull Moors in the FA Trophy.

But he sends his side into action tomorrow admitting he cannot play dumb on the subject any more.

He said: “I do look at the table now, I said since January I will show an interest. “We are four clear of the chasing pack now.

“It is important we don’t get ahead of ourselves and work hard and earn the right to win games.

“We will be concentrating on the league now and attention turns to FC United on Saturday.

“Our original goal was to avoid relegation, then it was to get in the top half. Now it is to maintain the play-off positions.

“I can’t really play dumb or trick anyone into low expectations any more, and I am an honest person.”

The Bucks know that a handful of wins from their nine remaining games will see them into the play-off spots come May.

Cowan admitted his side will be going for broke now in a bid to secure a top-seven berth.

He added: “There are no targets or points tallies, nothing like that.

“We will take each game as it comes to maintain one of those spots.

“If it is not to be, then it is not to be. But we are working very hard to make sure it happens.

“We are ahead of the chasing pack pack now and in a very good position.”
