Cowan keeping a close eye on Ellis

AFC Telford United boss Gavin Cowan could give Jud Ellis a chance to impress if he continues to shine on loan at Hednesford Town.

Former Market Drayton Town man Ellis joined the Bucks in the summer, but is yet to make a competitive appearance for them.

He joined Hednesford on a one-month loan a couple of weeks ago and scored twice in their 2-1 win against Basford United last weekend.

"Jud did excellent last weekend, scoring a couple of goals, so we're keeping a close eye on how he does," said Cowan.

"If he carries on like that, it might be one for me to get him back with us and involved."

Telford signed Ellis after a spell on trial last summer.

He is one of three currently out on loan from the Bucks, along with Dom Smith at Alfreton Town and Jack Downing at Redditch United.

"Jud, Dom and Jack are doing really well," said Cowan.

"Jud and Jack needed to get out at a good level. Dom is getting games at our level, which he needed.

"Maybe Dom and Jud can push towards being involved with us near the end of the season."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sheridan Martinez has recently returned to Telford – but only to keep himself ticking over as he searches for a new club.

Martinez's second spell with the Bucks came to an end earlier this season, and he then had a brief spell at Hednesford.

Now, as Cowan does not have a goalkeeping coach due to Darren Acton going back to Solihull Moors a few months ago, the 25-year-old is putting shot-stoppers Josef Bursik and Andy Wycherley through their paces.

"I'm quite close with Sheridan as he's a superb human being, someone all of us here really get on with and respect," added Cowan.

"He's just not got a club at the moment, and we haven't had a goalkeeping coach since Darren went back to Solihull.

"Sheridan, though, grew up working under Darren, so he knows all of his little tricks.

"He's been putting our keepers through their paces, while also training himself, as he looks to find himself a new club.

"He's been training with us and helping out, but it's nothing more than that."
