Ryan Giles was the star of the show as AFC Telford United picked up a huge victory in their quest for survival, beating Spennymoor Town 3-2.

The 18-year-old, on his full debut for the club after arriving on loan from Wolves, had a hand in all three Bucks goals.

Marcus Dinanga opened the scoring for Rob Edwards' charges, after a corner from Giles, but long-rangers from Nathan Lowe and Andrew Johnson saw the visitors lead at half-time.

Giles equalised after the break and, following his delivery, the ball fell to Elliot Newby whose cool conversion meant Telford took the spoils at the New Bucks Head.

The only dampener is they remain in the National League North relegation zone, on goal difference, as Curzon Ashton drew 2-2 with Alfreton Town.

Giles coming in at left wing for Newby was the only change from their previous game, a 2-1 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.

Amari Morgan-Smith was included among the substitutes after serving a three-match ban but John McAtee, who is on loan from Shrewsbury Town, did not make the 16 for the third match running. Paul Bignot and Jon Royle were also left out of the squad.

It was hoped there would be a big Bucks attendance to will Edwards' side on as under-19s were allowed in for free, while adults and concessions were charged a flat rate of £9.

The crowd was not much larger than usual but they were louder. Telford started brightly, with the pace and trickery of attacking trio Giles, Dinanga and Kane Richards keeping the Moors backline firmly on their toes.

Their first opportunity was a decent one as Giles whipped in a corner and skipper Shane Sutton headed the ball well wide, from near the penalty spot.

Spennymoor did not heed that warning as Giles, with another corner from the same side, set up the opener. Dinanga rose highest at the near post, powering home with a header equally as superb as the delivery.

The lead lasted a mere four minutes, though, as Lowe's audacious free-kick found the top corner. A curling effort with a nice amount of power, Bucks goalkeeper Ben Wilson seemed a little wrong-footed and just could not get across to it.

Giles' corners were proving hard to deal with. Another one of his balls into the box found Henry Cowans, who could not quite connect properly with his head which allowed the visitors to clear.

Right up the other end, Telford were pegged back despite doing little wrong. Johnson tried his luck from long range, and like Lowe before him, saw his strike sail past Wilson.

Hit ever so sweetly from 25 yards out, the man on loan from Cardiff City had no chance of stopping it.

It was up to the Bucks to respond in the face adversity, show some resiliency.

The game went into a bit of lull, unsurprisingly, after such an action-packed opening half-hour. Both teams needed a bit of a breather.

Telford's next attempt on target came after another corner. This time, Cowans swung it in with his right foot and Dom Smith nodded into the grateful hands of Moors shot-stopper Daniel Lowson.

The hosts enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but, frustratingly, the away side made the most of their two half-chances.

There were no changes for the start of the second period. The Bucks continued to have most of the ball as Spennymoor aimed to threaten on the counter.

Jason Ainsley's men did just that in the 48th minute as Robert Ramshaw beat Sutton to an over-the-top ball, took a touch to set himself before his right-footed shot smacked the post. A huge let-off.

Some sloppy defending then allowed Giles the opportunity to level, and he did so with aplomb.

He found space in the box and worked the ball onto his stronger left foot, drilling low past Lowson and into the far corner. A confident finish from the youngster.

The winger was not willing to stop there. Refreshingly, not afraid to shoot from distance, he went near to doubling his tally twice with speculative tries.

Newby and Morgan-Smith entered the fray as Telford aimed to put the Moors to the sword, and the pair played an enormous part in regaining the advantage.

Once more, Giles' cross was right on the money. It was met by the head of Morgan-Smith and the ball deflected into the path of Newby, who smashed in with his weaker right foot.

The focus then switched to shoring things up and the Bucks managed to do so, bringing on Connor Johnson for Richards late on as they went for a five-man defence. Fans will be hoping for more of the same as they host Chorley tomorrow.
