Bucks duo put on list and told: Stay away

AFC Telford United have slapped Johnny Gorman and Greg Wilkinson on the transfer-list – and the duo are unlikely to play for the club again.

Both players, who are under contract to the end of the season, have been told to stay away as manager Rob Smith looks to "avoid any negativity" around the club.

Neither Gorman nor Wilkinson, who were both signed by former boss Steve Kittrick, have played in the last three games.

Smith recently blasted "disruptive influences" as a "disgrace" to the club after the FA Trophy loss to Chester, when both players were unused substitutes, and neither has featured since.

"Johnny Gorman and Greg Wilkinson have been transfer-listed and we've had a couple of tentative enquiries for them but nothing concrete," said Smith, who faces his former club Hednesford on Boxing Day.

"I can't envisage them being involved in the team again. They're not banished as such but we've made clubs aware they're available.

"It's not really a case of them showing a bad attitude, it's just we need all of those who are in the dressing room playing.

"We can't afford any negativity and that's why on a matchday you'll only see the bare minimum of players there."

Meanwhile, Smith expects a rough ride on his return to Hednesford on Boxing Day. It will be the first time he and assistant Larry Chambers have gone back to Keys Park since returning to Telford in September.

"I don't think I'll get a very good reception but that doesn't bother me," said Smith. "I enjoyed every minute of my time there and hopefully the fans will remember that, but a few people will have a pop at me for jumping ship.

"Am I looking forward to it? Not really. I just want to get the job done.

"This is my first flirt with relegation and I'm hating every minute."
