AFC Telford United's income cut in half

AFC Telford United have had just one party interested in taking over the club – and he was banned.

The news comes as the club's income for each home game has dropped by almost half – by £5,000 – on last season.

It prompted managing director Lee Carter's startling announcement that the Bucks might not exist in 12 months' time.

Chairman Ian Dosser said: "The only person that has come forward was six or seven weeks ago.

"We started checking up and looking into his background and found he had been banned from being a director for six years!

"Last season we were generating about £12,000 each home game, this season it's between £6,500 to £7,000."

Supporters Trust chairman Luke Fearnall has been trying to attract investors for several months but admitted: "There's no one who wants to buy this club."

Speaking at Wednesday night's fans' forum, club bosses warned the dream of promotion back to the Conference National – and staying there – appears to be a distant one at the moment.

That's even though Telford's playing budget is understood to be in the top six in National League North.

Dosser said: "In the Conference Premier, they're not just putting in more money than us, but two and a half to three times as much.

But asked where he saw the club in three and five years, Dosser added: "Personally it would be to get back in the Conference National and stay there this time."

Managing director Lee Carter revealed turnover had increased from £300,000 in year one in 2004-05 to £800,000 last season but added: "It's still not enough.

"But, in my opinion, our level should be the bottom end of the Conference National."

Carter revealed that of the 1,000 free tickets given out to schools each home game, there was around a 20 per cent take-up.
