Match Report: Rhyl 1-1 AFC Telford
Honours even at the Corbett Spot Stadium as Telford draw 1-1 in a pre-season friendly against Welsh Premier Side, Rhyl FC.
New signing, Dave Hibbert gave Telford the lead just after 15 minutes in a dominant first half display. Rhyl responded with a goal from Derik Taylor late on in the second half to end the match in a draw.
The Bucks started at a blistering pace, forcing keeper, Mike Askew into a good save from a free kick before hitting the post from a corner; all within the first five minutes.
Telford soon had their reward just past the 15 minute mark as new signing; Dave Hibbert ran onto a through ball and coolly slotted the ball low into the bottom corner.
The dominance continued with the Rhyl defenders looking incapable of dealing with the pacey attacking game from Telford.
The Bucks had a two golden opportunities to extend their lead, firstly with Jack Roberts (no 7) who latched onto another through ball but could only send his shot wide one on one with the keeper before Jack Roberts' (no 11) shot from 8 yards was deflected agonizingly past the post.
The home side forced their way into the match as the half wore on, their best chance falling to winger Rob Hughes who forced keeper, Montgomery into his first save of the evening by parrying away a close range shot.
Tom Donegan then curled a 20 yard shot just wide for Rhyl but the players trudged off for half time with the Bucks leading 1-0.
The second half proved to be a different affair with the home side looking much more comfortable on the ball and immediately had the ball in the net, though the goal was ruled out for offside.
Rob Hughes stung the hands on Montgomery with a long drive before the Dave Hibbert, who had been thorn in the side of the Rhyl defence all evening was brought off for Kerian Anderson.
The game settled into an evenly matched affair with neither side being able to break down the opposition's defence.
The game was sparked back into life when Derik Taylor levelled the scores with 15 minutes left. Aaron Bowen's cross was met by the winger whose initial shot was parried away by Montgomery but the keeper could do nothing to prevent Taylor slotting the rebound into the empty net.
Telford responded and nearly found the winner late on with two good chances. Anderson's shot was just tipped around the post by Askew before Harrison hit the bar with a shot from 20 yards deep into stoppage time.
