AFC Telford new boy Roberts arrives in style

New AFC Telford midfielder Jack Roberts has revealed moving to New Bucks Head was an 'easy sell'.

Roberts, 24, made himself known to the Bucks faithful with two fine goals in last night's 4-2 defeat to a youthful Derby County side.

And after four years in the United States studying for his degree, he is hoping to continue to impress his new supporters.

He said: "It's unbelievable for the level of football they play in.

"I couldn't wish to be anywhere better.

"I was in the States for four years and came back looking for somewhere. Once I'd spoke to the gaffer it was an easy sell."

The Bucks opened the scoring against the Championship Rams last night through Roberts – a terrific drive into the top corner from 30 yards – with his weaker left foot.

"I'm definitely right-footed!" he said. "I don't think I've hit one quite like that before, especially with my left foot.

"I was just saying in the dressing room after the game that we have probably wasted my one for the season now!

"We were disappointed with how we conceded straight from kick-off after scoring. That shouldn't happen.

"But it's pre-season and that's what we will look to put right in the next couple of games.

"We had a 10 or 15 minute period when they scored all three.

"But it was good to put on a fight for the supporters in the last 10 minutes and just a shame we couldn't do it earlier.

"The fans are great. I've heard good things about them and if we can put the performances in and wins for them to keep coming and cheering."

The Leicester City academy graduate knows all about the trials of the National League North from his playing spell before moving to the States.

He said: "I played for what was then Hinckley United before I went to America so I know all about how difficult this division is.

"I know what to expect and I'm looking forward to getting into it.

"We have to set the bar as high as possible and achieve the best we can this season.

"I know how strong the squad is we have here. I think we can achieve some good things."

The Bucks welcome another Championship outfit, Wolverhampton Wanderers, to New Bucks Head on Tuesday night, before travelling to Welsh side Rhyl next weekend.
