Steve Kittrick admits defeat on Jay Denny

AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick has conceded midfielder Jay Denny's short tenure at New Bucks Head is over after admitting the move 'hadn't worked out'.

The defensive midfielder only signed on non-contract terms from Worcester City in May, but it has been agreed he will return to Northern Premier League outfit Halesowen Town.

Denny made his debut in the 4-0 Shropshire Senior Cup win over Shifnal Town but Kittrick revealed the decision was made after Saturday's friendly at AFC Wulfrunians.

The boss said: "It's just not worked out and in football that is one of those things.

"It's nothing to do with his travel or lifestyle, it just hasn't worked for either of us. I don't want to go in too deep about it because that wouldn't be fair on the player as he's done nothing wrong – he's been a great lad.

"There is no point keeping a player on if he's not the player for me.

"Jay has been the ultra-professional, we discussed it after the Wulfrunians game and both came to an agreement that he could go onto Halesowen Town."

Denny returns to the Black Country side, where he made more than 100 appearances between 2007 and 2010.

The Californian-born midfielder then played over a century of games for Hednesford Town and Solihull Moors.

Kittrick is still waiting for the proposed signing of Jack Roberts to be completed, but insists Roberts will not be used as a like-for-like Denny replacement.

"Jack is more of an attacking player, when he spent time in America he was used as a wide left player of four in midfielder," he said.

"So we will have to look and see what is available in terms of a defensive midfielder. A lot of teams are settled with their players."
