Steve Kittrick: Johnny Gorman is huge signing
New AFC Telford signing Johnny Gorman has been hailed as a 'real asset' and a 'coup' after penning a one-year deal.
Northern Ireland international Gorman is still only 22 but lists Manchester United and Wolves among his former clubs. Boss Steve Kittrick said Gorman had admitted his failings after dropping down the leagues since leaving Molineux just two years ago.
And Kittrick believes the midfielder has the 'hunger and desire' to be a success.
"He's got massive hunger and desire and his attitude is admirable," Kittrick said.
"He's an intelligent kid and an intelligent footballer who has admitted his failings.
"But he wants to be successful. If he pushes on he may get another opportunity to go full-time. I'm very pleased to have him here."
Gorman has nine caps for his country – including an appearance against Italy – having made his international bow in 2010 aged just 17.
He featured for Manchester City and Manchester United at youth level before joining Wolves, making his first-team debut in the Premier League in 2012.
However, that was to be his only Wolves appearance, with Sheffield-born Gorman going on loan to Plymouth Argyle, Macclesfield Town and Cambridge United.
After being released by Wolves he joined Leyton Orient in League One but struggled to make an impact.
Last season he played five times for non-league Southport and then joined Barrow in October, making 20 appearances.
Kittrick said Gorman's qualities would make him a real asset at New Bucks Head.
"Technically he's a very good player," added Kittrick, who could make further additions this week.
"He'll add flair, he's a goalscorer and has plenty of pace. He can play in midfield, up the middle or on the right or left of a front three. There's no doubt he'll be a real asset."
Gorman was Telford's fifth signing in little over a week.
