AFC Telford hope to land two more players
AFC Telford United are hoping to complete two more signings this week as boss Steve Kittrick continues his squad rebuilding.
Kittrick hopes to unveil a utility man and a versatile attacker to add to right-back Josh Brizell and goalscoring midfielder Danny O'Callaghan, who put pen to paper last week.
The Bucks boss said: "There will be a couple of signings this week, hopefully. It's looking very promising with two of them.
"One is a utility player and the other is an attacking player and both have experience at Conference and Conference North level. They are saying they are 99 per cent certain to sign, so that's good.
"They will, hopefully, be here tomorrow to meet us and we're putting offers to them which we hope they will accept."
The latest arrivals fit the 'young and hungry' profile Kittrick has identified to characterise the squad for next season.
"I think they're at the right age – they're not past their sell-by date, they're hungry lads who want to play here so that's a plus."
Kittrick stresses patience is turning out to be a virtue in his recruitment drive, adding: "It's a case of gently, gently in terms of getting the right players in.
"As it gets nearer to pre-season, the players that were asking for £700 a week are coming down to more sensible money.
"These two lads we've hopefully got coming in this week don't fall into that category. One of the lads has been talking to a Football League club, but the deal's not financially viable for him."
Kittrick warns the quality and budget of Telford's rivals means an immediate return to the top of the non-league pyramid isn't guaranteed for the Bucks.
He said: "I think it's easier to stay in the Conference than win promotion into it. Fylde will come with a lot of momentum as will Chorley, Boston and Tamworth after missing out on promotion.
"Solihull spent a lot of money on a decent calibre of player so they will be pushing for it. It will be very competitive."
