The 25-year-old goalscoring midfielder became boss Steve Kittrick's second new face last week, following Josh Brizell.

O'Callaghan has been told he won't start as a first choice, but Kittrick believes the former Sutton Coldfield Town man can force his way into contention.

The midfielder arrives after an impressive campaign in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South where he was a play-off hero and Player of the Season, bagging 14 goals.

Kittrick said: "He knows he's coming in as a squad player but I want players from the local area, which I have done, and we'll have to see if he can rise to the challenge.

"But he has that hunger to be successful and he will get a chance to prove himself. We had him recommended and he's a very good player.

"We have given him an opportunity to step up and see how he does. He's come in and he'll have a pre-season and we'll have a good look at him to see how he fits in.

"He's aggressive and a big lad who wants to play football and he scored 14 goals last season, which is a massive plus. He was telling me he used to watch Telford and he didn't take a lot of convincing to come."

O'Callaghan has arrived at Telford with a ringing endorsement from Sutton boss Neil Tooth.

Tooth said: "Danny will always be a hero at this club for what he's achieved. He's a top lad with a fantastic attitude and one of the most honest, hardworking lads you'll meet, so I wish him all the best."

Tooth admitted O'Callaghan couldn't reject Telford's deal, adding: "Danny received an offer he simply couldn't turn down.

"Not only is it a step up in leagues, it's also a double-your-money offer. As much as we'd have loved to keep him, we just can't compete."
