Telford look to future as Tony Gray exit looms

AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick looks set to lose top-scorer Tony Gray, as he unveiled two new signings.

The Bucks chief has been hopeful that Gray, who was out of contract this summer, would sign a new deal at the New Bucks Head.

But he says the 31-year-old ex-Chester hitman, who was last week linked with a move to a Welsh Premier League club, looks set to sign elsewhere.

He said: "There was a deal from us on the table but he has decided to go. I'm disappointed but I totally understand his decision."

Gray has added: "It looks unlikely that I will be coming back to Telford. They tabled a deal for me on Wednesday but other clubs have been busier.

"I am already well down the line with other options, although I haven't totally committed to anywhere yet."

He added that travelling to Telford has been an issue and he has options that are closer to home.

But Kittrick has added two new faces to his squad for next season's Conference North promotion, former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe and ex-Nantwich Town defender Ben Harrison.

Springthorpe, 20, has joined on a one year deal having spent time at Premier League Everton, who he joined from Town for £125,000 in February 2011.

He never played for the Toffees first team but and has since been at Woking on loan and League One Fleetwood, from where he was released part way through last season.

Springthorpe also turned out for West Midlands Premier Division side Ellesmere Rangers last term.

Kittrick said: "He wants to settle down, play football, get on and be sorted.

"He's a good goalkeeper and he has going to be competition for James Montgomery."

Harrison, 24, has signed a non-contract deal with the offer of a contract upon regularly making the starting XI.

He joined Nantwich Town from Witton Albion after five seasons at the mid-Cheshire club, where he played over 200 games.

Kittrick said: "I have watched him a few times and he has got all the attributes."
