AFC Telford docked three points and fined

AFC Telford United have been docked three points and fined £500 by the Football Conference for fielding an ineligible player.

The charge relates to Bolton Wanderers loanee Glenn Matthews, who was ineligible to play in the 1-0 win at home to Lincoln City on April 11.

It's where the Bucks recorded their first home league win in nearly five months, a game in which Matthews appeared as a second-half substitute.

The Conference had not received the necessary paperwork for his loan extension in time, so the right-back should not have been in the match-day squad.

This problem had been missed by club staff, so manager Steve Kittrick was also unaware. The club have not appealed this sanction.

The deduction will see Telford, who were relegated from the Conference Premier last month, drop a place from 22nd to 23rd in the table.

The club has apologised to the fans, management and the team. Processes have been reviewed to ensure that this does not happen again.
