Steve Akrigg may earn AFC Telford reprieve
Manager Steve Kittrick claims the door remains open for Steve Akrigg at AFC Telford United despite the defender's release.
Akrigg was one of nine players let go by the Bucks yesterday, as Kittrick's summer rebuild kicked into gear.
The 28-year-old, who began the campaign as captain, did not play a game under Kittrick having suffered a serious knee injury prior to his arrival in the hot-seat.
And the Telford boss admits further talks are likely to take place, whenever the former Southport stopper returns to full fitness.
Kittrick said: "Steve has had a really bad injury and the main thing at the minute is for him to get walking right and then running right.
"The last thing he wants at the moment is someone bothering him over the future. I wish him all the best and I am sure, when he is back to fitness, we will talk."
Akrigg suffered tears to both ligaments in his knee and Kittrick believes it could be toward the end of the year until he is ready to play again.
He said: "It's a long haul for him. You have got to be looking at much later on this year until he is able to start running on it. It's not a nice thing to happen to a player."
Yesterday's other departures were certainly for good with Rod McDonald, Charlie Barnett, Jordan Deacy, Andy Owens, Kristian Platt, Sean Cooke and goalkeeping duo Jonathan Hedge and Freddie Hall, all shown the door.
Kittrick said: "It speaks volumes that they have not been part of the squad. You didn't have to be a brain surgeon to see they were not coming back."
The Bucks chief was meeting today with several of the players he is keen to keep. They include Sam Smith, though it's understood the forward has had at least two offers from elsewhere.
