Goalkeeper James Montgomery has thanked AFC Telford manager Steve Kittrick for giving him the chance to prove himself in the Conference Premier.

But the 20-year-old said it's not yet clear where he will be playing next season.

Montgomery was snapped up on non-contract terms in March and given his Conference Premier debut at Braintree when Freddy Hall was on international duty with Bermuda.

Montgomery kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win and retained the No.1 spot for the final six games of the season.

He said: "I had never played in the Conference Premier before. I had been waiting for a chance and finally I got it, so thanks to the gaffer for putting me in.

"I appreciate him giving me the chance when no-one else would, and he's kept me in the team. I just want to keep on pushing on and playing at the highest level I can."

That level could be above Conference North if he can impress potential suitors Walsall. Montgomery has trained with the League One outfit and played for their reserves in a 0-0 draw against Tranmere.

Kittrick would like to sign Montgomery for next season and the player is happy to discuss the matter.

Asked what his position was he said: "I'd still like to see what the situation is here with the gaffer."
