AFC Telford century afoot for Adam Farrell

Striker Adam Farrell is set to clock up a personal milestone in AFC Telford United's home clash against Lincoln City tomorrow.

But the versatile 25-year-old, who is in line for his 100th competitive appearance for the club, is looking firmly to the future.

Farrell, who played 48 games last season and 51 so far this term, is more concerned with helping the Bucks rebound swiftly from the pain of relegation, starting with a much-needed home victory over the Imps.

He said: "I knew my 100th game was coming up at some point but obviously it is not a time to celebrate at the minute after we have just been relegated.

"It's been a tough season and we want to end it on a high. We have not won at home for a long time so it would be good to get a win in front of our fans."

Home wins have been very much at a premium in what has been a dismal campaign in the Conference Premier.

The Bucks have had just two in the league to savour all season, their last coming almost five months ago to the day – a 2-1 victory over Altrincham on November 12.

On the road, however, they have fared much better under current boss Steve Kittrick, who took the reins in December.

Monday's 3-0 win at Southport was their sixth league triumph away from home and their fifth in 11 league games under Kittrick.

Farrell, like the rest of the squad, is stumped as to why the Bucks have struggled so much on their own patch.

He said: "I don't know why that is. We just seem to perform better away from home but I can't understand why that is.

"We have been playing well at home but not getting the results we deserve. We were close against Kidderminster last weekend but another mistake has cost us and it summed up our season.

"There have been too many this season. We did play well but obviously it wasn't enough."

That game ended in a 1-1 draw which confirmed Telford's relegation to the second tier of non-league with four games to go.

Farrell has more reason than many to want the club to turn their current woes around.

He is – along with Neill Byrne – one of just two players already contracted to Telford for the next campaign.

He is hopeful that more of the existing squad will be retained but he added: "Hopefully, the gaffer will bring some signings in.

"Then we can put up a good fight and come straight back up like we did last season. Being champions again would be good but any way to get back up is the goal."

Farrell was in the side when Telford last locked horns with Lincoln, a 2-0 defeat at Sincil Bank in October, and he is under no illusions about how difficult it will be to turn the tables tomorrow.

But it remains their goal and he warns that their opponents have yet to see the best of Telford this season.

He said: "They are a big strong team and they beat us comfortably but we didn't perform to our best so, hopefully, we can get that win tomorrow."
