AFC Telford manager wants five of the best
AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick has told his players to make the most of the last five games if they want to stay.
The Bucks, who host Kidderminster on Saturday, will be relegated from the Conference Premier with four games left if fifth-bottom Alfreton avoid defeat at Wrexham that day.
The vast majority of Kittrick's team will be out of contract at the end of the campaign – only defender Neill Byrne and striker Adam Farrell are signed up for the next campaign.
Following his team's 1-0 defeat to Dover on Saturday, which has left them 15 points from safety with five games to go, Kittrick warned that there would be a "massive change" on and off the field next season.
And he insists that all five of his team's remaining fixtures could be crucial if players want to earn a new deal.
Kittrick said: "There will be some conversations with certain people but they have got five games to play for pride.
"If they want to stay at Telford, whether it is in this league or the league below, then they have got to tell me that is what they want by their performances.
"It is about looking at yourself in the mirror and you have got to play to the best of your ability.
"There's people that have already answered questions and other people who are on the periphery of doing that. They have got to want to play for the club and themselves."
Whether midfielder Jordan Deacey will play any role in those five games is unclear after he allegedly refused to come off the bench in the defeat to Dover.
Kittrick was left fuming by the incident at the Crabble, but he does not appear to have closed the door on the player completely.
He said: "He has not spoken to me, but it is up to him how he finishes this season. The ball is in his court now."
