Steve Kittrick tells AFC Telford to forget past

AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick is determined to put the past firmly in the rear view mirror as his struggling side heads to Torquay United tomorrow.

Kittrick has been critical of both the effort and quality within his ranks as the Bucks slumped to consecutive Conference Premeir defeats against Dartford, Forest Green Rovers, Grimsby Town and Alfreton.

An embarrassing Shropshire Senior Cup final defeat to Shrewsbury Town's youth team in midweek will have done little to improve confidence.

But Kittrick, whose team are 11 points from safety at the foot of the Conference Premier table, insists now is not the time for negativity.

He said: "I want us to play with confidence now, with no fear, to enjoy ourselves, and I am sure we will turn the corner.

"We have said what we have got to say and they have got to put a shift in. But they are all capable players. They are all capable of putting in a good performance and that is what we want.

"We have said what we have got to say and we have got to move on from it now.

"They have got to take things on board and we have listened to what one or two players have had to say – and we have got to be positive now.

"They should be focusing on putting a good performance in tomorrow, wanting to win, wanting to play as a team and working hard to get three points.

"That is what it is all about and I am sure it will turn itself around at some point. They have got to be brave and trust each other."

The Bucks have already defeated Torquay once this season, 4-3 in September, and Kittrick is adamant the team can achieve a repeat result tomorrow.

He said: "Anybody can beat anybody in this league so we have got to apply ourselves properly. and enjoy ourselves and go and play football. Let other teams worry about us."
