AFC Telford win appeal on Godfrey Poku

AFC Telford United today won their appeal against the five-match suspension handed to midfielder Godfrey Poku following his third red card of the season.

Poku was sent off for an alleged elbow in the second-half of the Bucks' 3-2 defeat at home to relegation rivals Dartford on Saturday.

Having previously been dismissed in games against Welling and Southport earlier in the season, Poku faced an extended ban for his latest dismissal.

He was adamant that no elbow had been thrown in the incident, which was upheld at a meeting of a Football Association regulatory commission held today.

From the evidence adduced, the members ruled that it was a case of wrongful dismissal and leaves Poku free to play on.

A disappointing start to his Telford career had seen him sent off twice in his first four games.

The first of which at Welling for two bookable offences certainly looked questionable and Poku has since been a virtual ever-present in the Bucks' midfield this season.

But he has since put those setbacks firmly behind him and coach Andy Pryce said: "Losing Godfrey for five matches would have been a bit of a blow.

"He's a very good player, he puts himself all around the park and those are the types of people we need on the pitch until the end of the season to get us going again."

Meanwhile, the Bucks will cast an eye over two trialists at tonight's home friendly with Wolves Under-21s, kicking off at 7.30pm.

Pryce was remaining tight-lipped on their identities but said: "We have got a couple of people on trial this evening - a goalkeeper and a right-winger.

"We have got a good squad but we are always looking to improve it."

The Bucks are likely to field several regular starters, as well as a number of fringe players in need of minutes.
