The Racecourse Ground pitch needed two inspections before it was passed playable.

But the home side could well have been wishing the game had been postponed after the Bucks made a lightning-fast start.

Sam Smith opened the scoring with a tremendous curling strike from outside the box just two minutes in.

And Tony Gray's excellent diving header, from debutant right-back John Disney's cross, made it 2-0 just six minutes later.

Godfrey Poku almost made it 3-0 with a thumping long-range effort which cannoned off the crossbar just before the half hour mark.

And the hosts then went a man down when Connor Jennings caught Poku late with a dangerous lunge on 30 minutes.

Gray and Andy Todd both drilled just wide shortly before half-time as Telford continued to make most of the running.

The visitors were understandably booed off at half time, after an abject display, but the Bucks had been both composed and clinical.

Mark Carrington twice went close to cutting the deficit with two good strikes early into the second half, the former going wide and the latter being cleared off the line.

But the Bucks claimed a controversial third on 58 minutes when Gray slotted home superbly from the edge of the box from a swift counter-attack.

The home fans were incensed though as a challenge by Neill Byrne had left Robbie Evans lying on the floor in the opposite goalmouth seconds earlier.

Telford had looked entitled to play on though and Neill Byrne bundled in a fourth from Ben McLaughlin's corner-kick 17 minutes from time.

The Bucks are now unbeaten in five matches since manager Steve Kittrick was appointed.

They have cut the gap between themselves and safety to eight points.
