Steve Kittrick: Flying start paid off for Bucks
AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick has hailed his team's flying start following their thumping 4-0 win at Wrexham.
The Bucks, who still remain bottom of the Conference Premier, had gone into the match as underdogs.
But they raced out of the traps and were 2-0 up inside eight minutes thanks to goals from Sam Smith and Tony Gray.
A second for Gray and a Neill Byrne finish in the second-half wrapped up the win.
And Kittrick said: "The players did really well. They put a shift in and it is a great result.
"We have got at them straight away and I said to the players beforehand that the first ten minutes in either half can win or lose you the game.
"When you get momentum and we get 2-0 up, everybody gets 10ft tall and the confidence just flows."
The win extended Telford's unbeaten run to five matches under Kittrick and his team have cut the gap between themselves and safety to nine points.
And asked what had changed within the side in recent weeks, said: "They have got a bit of belief.
"If you look at everyone's CV they are all played at a good level. It is just a bit of belief (that has been lacking).
"I have had a lot of the same players (as previous manager Liam Watson) although we have added another couple of players like Jack Rea and John Disney, who have come in and done well.
"They have got a point to prove, they want to play at the highest level they can and that has made a massive difference."
Disney, who arrived from Chester last week, was one of two debutants in the team on Saturday along with Everton loanee Been McLaughlin.
And Kittrick said: "John has been at Chester and been in the cold for a long time there and but I know his pedigree, he is a good player and he wants the opportunity to play regular football in the Conference.
"He is good enough and I think he will grow as a player. Ben is part of a Premier League club, he's come in at left-back and he did a great job on Saturday.
"He is a nice lad and the way he celebrated at the end of the game means a lot to everybody.
"He hasn't come as a 'Big Time Charlie.' He has come here because he wants to play for Telford."
Wrexham played the last 60 minutes of the game a man short, after Connor Jennings was sent off for a lunge on Godfrey Poku.
But Kittrick said: "To be fair I don't think the sending off has had a lot of influence on the game.
"It made it 10 versus 11 but before that happened, at 2-0 up I thought we were well worth that lead."
