Steve Kittrick stepping up AFC Telford search
Manager Steve Kittrick will use AFC Telford United's unwanted free Tuesday to step up his search for new players.
The Bucks were set to go to AFC Fylde tonight in the FA Trophy but the game has been called off – for a second time – due to a waterlogged pitch.
And that has given the manager extra time to work on strengthening his squad ahead of Saturday's Conference Premier clash at Wrexham.
Kittrick, who has signed three players since taking the reins at the New Bucks Head last month, has already revealed he hopes to bring in two more before that game.
Those deals could now be sealed sooner than expected, with Kittrick saying: "I had shelved one or two things because of having the game tonight, but now it is off there might be something I can do.
"I'm hopeful we can get something sorted quickly. I've just been seeing what's about, we have got to get the right people to come in to help us.
"I have given everyone a fair crack of the whip and there are areas we need to strengthen.
"It is frustrating because there are areas you want to bring players in but there are some areas where we are short and that has to be the priority."
The Fylde game was rescheduled for tonight after being called off on Saturday, but further bad weather in Lancashire meant the pitch was not going to recover in time.
Following an inspection the tie was moved once more to next Tuesday, January 20.
Telford will instead train tonight with Kittrick assessing the fitness of Kristian Platt and Rod McDonald, following their knee injuries. Charlie Barnett has recovered from a chest infection.
Kittrick added: "Rod has said he is ready to play but this will give us the chance for us to take a look at him and see where he is.
Meanwhile, AFC Telford will face lower league opposition in the FA Trophy third round if they can get past AFC Fylde.
A tie at Chorley, of Conference North, or Evo-Stik Premier Division FC United of Manchester on January 24 awaits the winners.
