And the former Guiseley chief – who last week made two signings – is aiming to bring in up to five further new recruits this month to strengthen them for the fight ahead.

It came following yesterday's excellent 2-1 win at Aldershot, thanks to a Neill Byrne header and a Joe Oastler own goal, was their first league win in nine attempts.

They are still 11 points from safety but they have closed the gap between themselves and fellow bottom-four sides Nuneaton, Dartford and Alfreton to just four, four and five points respectively.

And Kittrick said: "We are in this little mini-league and if the fourth team from the bottom gets 31 points we have got to get 32.

"I ain't going to say we have got to get 50 or 60 points. But we have got to keep putting points on the table and believing in what we are doing.

"And if we get out of it it will be fantastic. If we don't it won't be for the want of trying."

Kittrick was delighted with the performance of his team but he was again only able to name four substitutes as injuries and unavailability continued to bite.

The Bucks saw loanee left-back Kyle Brownhill called back by parent club Hyde and lost midfielder Charlie Barnett to a bug the night before the game.

The Bucks, who then also lost Josh Hancock to injury in the second half at Aldershot, already had a significant injury list to contend with.

Kittrick said: "I think we need to strengthen along the spine of the team. I have got to get some full-backs in. I need to add four or five."
