Mike Grogan urges caution at AFC Telford
Tough-tackling midfielder Mike Grogan has urged the AFC Telford United board not to rush the appointment of a new boss.
Interviews for the managerial hot-seat began yesterday at the New Bucks Head, as the club looks to whittle down more than 30 applicants interested in the post.
Among the favourites are former Chester boss Neil Young, ex-Hereford United manager Martin Foyle and former Mansfield chief Paul Cox.
But Grogan believes it is imperative the board take their time and appoint the right man, with the team capable of picking up results under caretakers Andy Todd and Andy Pryce.
Grogan said: "Getting the right man is the important thing – it's not a decision that should be rushed.
"We have still got people in the dressing room who can lead us out so their is no need to rush. Andy Todd is a really good talker and along with Andy Pryce they can get us back on track and help us pick up results.
"There are a lot of people interested in the job because it has great potential so we need the right man."
Grogan is disappointed Liam Watson was sacked and feels the old boss could have turned things around, saying: "I think a lot of the lads are in shock that Liam has left.
"We played really well in the FA Cup against Bristol City and we've been knocked out by a side who are top of League One.
"Playing on the Tuesday against Welling, after playing City on the Sunday, came too soon for us – we had a lot of tired legs.
"Then we played well and drew against Chester but Liam has lost his job. It looks like the decision was made before that game."
Meanwhile, former Wolves and Ipswich defender Mark Venus has ruled himself out of the running to replace Watson, after being linked with the job.
