Caretaker tells AFC Telford to stay focused
AFC Telford United coach Andy Pryce insists the players must not lose focus this week following the exit of manager Liam Watson.
The Bucks sacked Watson on Saturday evening, following a run of three wins in 24 league games which has left the team rock bottom of the Conference Premier.
Pryce, who is currently the club's goalkeeping guru, and player-coach Andy Todd have been tasked with taking training this week while the club looks for a new manager.
And Pryce said: "It's a bit of stop-gap until the club move quickly and, hopefully, get the right man for the job. I did it at Market Drayton Town when I was playing, after Simon Line went.
"It is just a case of trying to keep everyone on their toes going into a really busy period."
The Bucks board hope to appoint a new manager in time for the home league game against Eastleigh on Saturday.
But, in the meantime, Pryce promised he and Todd will keep the squad concentrating on that game and getting a much-needed victory.
He said: "If the board come in and say 'we've got a new manager' before, then that's great.
"But we have got to take it as if we will be on charge for Saturday so we will be planning now for the rest of the week for the big game against Eastleigh.
"It's at home and potentially three points in the league that we desperately need."
Pryce has spoken to several of the players in the aftermath of Watson's departure, along with that of assistant Dominic Morley.
He said: "Everyone is just in shock especially after a bit of result on Saturday against Chester.
"But the board have made their decision and, as players, it is about being as professional as we can and playing for Telford United."
Pryce added that he was grateful to Watson and Morley for giving him the chance to work at Conference Premier level.
And he urged the fans to keep supporting the team, saying: "They have just got to stick with us until a new manager is in place.
"Hopefully, we can keep the ship sailing and, when the new manager comes in, they can push on. We will try our hardest to put out a team that will do justice for them."
