AFC Telford moving along to find new boss

AFC Telford United hope to have a new manager in place in time for this Saturday's Conference Premier home clash with Eastleigh.

The Bucks hierarchy insist they would move quickly to appoint Liam Watson's successor after he and assistant Dominic Morley were sacked on Saturday evening.

Watson and Morley were shown the door on the back of a dismal run in the league – three wins in 24 matches – which has left the Bucks 10 points from safety at the bottom of the league.

Managing director Lee Carter said: "Ideally, we want someone in place for next Saturday to, at least, be in the stands to watch their new charges.

"At this moment, Andy Pryce and Andy Todd are likely to take charge of training, but we want to move quickly and make the right appointment."

Carter added that there was no one lined up to take over the managerial reins when the decision to remove Watson was taken.

But he expects there to be significant interest and is anticipating a busy week as the club begins its search for a successor.

He said: "There is no one lined up. That is not the way we do business here, so we have got a busy week ahead.

"And the way football works I am sure there will be people knocking on the door quickly."

Watson's reign, which lasted 19 months, started gloriously as he led the Bucks to the Conference North title last season.

He also broke new ground this term by guiding the Bucks to the FA Cup second round for the first time in their 10-year history.
