Godfrey Poku sorry for AFC Telford's display
AFC Telford United midfielder Godfrey Poku has apologised to supporters following the team's defeat to Welling.
Tuesday's 2-1 home loss was the Bucks' 16th in 24 Conference Premier games this season.
And Poku was scathing about the display produced by himself and his team-mates in a home clash that was an opportunity to kick-start their battle to beat the drop.
He said: "It was rubbish. It wasn't good enough from everyone. I thought from the whole team it wasn't good enough. I feel embarrassed and I feel sorry for the fans. Massive apologies."
The defeat keeps Telford rooted firmly to the bottom of the table with 22 matches left.
Fatigue evidently played a role after Sunday's FA Cup battle at League One leaders Bristol City, which the Bucks lost 1-0 after an injury-time goal.
But that was no excuse for Tuesday's drab showing against Welling, claims Poku.
He added: "It looked like there was tired legs but we can't just give that as an excuse.
"We played superbly on Sunday but the whole season we have not produced back-to-back good performances."
A home FA Trophy tie against Chester is next up for Liam Watson's men on Saturday, before they return to league duties when 11th-place Eastleigh visit the New Bucks Head on December 20.
Boxing Day's visit to Nuneaton, second from bottom at present, is already shaping up to be a do-or-die clash for the Bucks.
But Poku insists the team will not throw in the towel despite their latest setback.
He said: "We have got to try to keep our heads up and be confident and keep on going, and try to have a never-say-die attitude.
"Of course, there is still belief. Hopefully we can go into the New Year with new goals and try to turn it around."
