Liam Watson fuming over sloppy AFC Telford defending

AFC Telford boss Liam Watson slammed his side's lack of consistency after they slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Chester last night.

The Bucks, who are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Conference Premier, had gone into the match in good spirits after a battling draw against promotion hopefuls Grimsby.

But they were undone by two soft goals in the second half as first Matty Brown opened the scoring and then Andy Parry netted an own goal.

Watson said: "We put in a good performance against Grimsby but we haven't managed to get back to back performances let alone back to back wins."

Watson was again left frustrated as his side failed to perform both defensively and in attack against the Blues.

The Bucks chief replaced defender Steve Akrigg with midfielder Josh Hancock at half-time and switched from 5-3-2 to 4-4-2 in a bid to increase their attacking threat.

But Telford conceded from a corner inside eight minutes of the restart and Watson said: "I didn't see us winning the game because we didn't make the keeper work.

"Godfrey Poku has clipped the bar and Karl Ledsham has had a half chance where he should probably do a lot better.

"We have then gone to a back four in the second half and tried to push the wide players on but we never had an attempt on goal.

"But I come back to us conceding at a really bad time. It's a soft goal that has killed us

"We changed at half time to be a little bit more pro-active but then the game changed within 10 minutes when they score from a corner that we should have never conceded and Freddy Hall has come for it, got nowhere near it and it is a free header."
