AFC Telford could net £120,000 from FA Cup

AFC Telford United's historic FA Cup win over Basingstoke is set to bank the club around £120,000.

The Bucks' 2-1 home triumph in Tuesday's replay earned them a place in the second round for the first time in the reformed club's history.

It netted £18,000 in prize money and earned Telford a trip to League One leaders Bristol City next month.

Watson said: "You are probably taking about £120,000 including all the bits and bobs, so I knew the pressure on the Tuesday's game.

"The Bristol game is going to be on the Sunday, as well, because the highlights are going to be on TV which means extra revenue."

The Bucks' trip to Ashton Gate is one of eight that have been switched to December 7 to be included in BBC One's FA Cup Final Score programme.

All competing clubs will receive £12,500 from the FA, with the winners of each tie receiving £27,000 in FA Cup prize money.

And Telford will also receive a share of the gate receipts from the match, which will swell their proceeds further.

Even greater rewards await the winners in round three, although Watson knows his team will be massive underdogs to advance against Steve Cotterill's promotion-chasing outfit.

Seventy places separate the sides in the football pyramid but Watson is undaunted by the task.

He said: "We go there as massive underdogs with nothing to fear. We'll enjoy the day, and that makes us dangerous."

Meanwhile, Watson has not ruled out a move back into the transfer market this week to bring in additional cover.

It comes following the arrivals of loanees Karl Ledsham and Kyle Brownhill from Lincoln City and Hyde last week.

Watson had been aiming to bring in three new recruits in total prior to last Saturday's trip to Barnet.
