But Watson was frustrated as defensive errors allowed hosts Basingstoke Town to come back from a goal down to force a first round replay, which will take place next Tuesday night.

He said: "If you had offered me the chance to stay in the competition and take it back to the New Bucks Head before the game I would have said yes, all day long, so we can't be too despondent.

"However, I think we missed a great opportunity to actually get through at the first time of asking.

"I am really disappointed with the goal that we have conceded. We have come out after half time so, so sloppy and again the goal was just so poor.

"The reason we have come out so sloppy is that defensively down the right-hand side we were abysmal.

"And the ball that has come into the box that they have scored from should be the goalkeeper's ball all day long so he has got to deal with that.

"You can't give them a header from three yards out in the middle of the goal from a corner. It just can't happen.

"But I feel sorry for a lot of the lads because I thought they all worked hard and put a shift in.

"I thought we had great backing from the fans and the work Godfrey Poku and Mike Grogan got through in middle of the pitch was good.

"But in the last 25 minutes, the game has become atrocious. One half of pitch looked alright after the game but the other, there were puddles everywhere.

"We were defending that half so it was hard to clear our lines. I think the referee has missed a blatant penalty for us.

"We were comfortable going down the slope in the first half. Coming back up it the slope we were probably asked more questions.

"Plus the weather changed a little but, the rain came down heavily but I don't think we were strong enough defensively especially down the right hand side.

"I think Ryan Higgins and Neill Byrne have got to look at themselves and ask could they do better - and I will answer it for them, yes they can - but we are in the draw on Monday. "
