Boss rallies AFC Telford for 'massive games'
AFC Telford boss Liam Watson is targeting an unbeaten run from "massive games" coming up in the wake of their defeat at Bristol Rovers.
The Bucks' 1-0 reverse at the Memorial Stadium was their third straight loss in the Conference Premier following their opening-day draw at Welling.
Watson's side, who were today set to host Southport, were undone by a superb long-range strike from Ollie Clarke on 55 minutes.
And the Telford chief is urging his team to bounce back in the next two weeks – during which they tackle fellow bottom-half sides Dartford away and Dover at home.
He said: "They are massive games now. We need to get through those games unbeaten and see where it takes us.
"I would say that of the three games we have lost, Aldershot were head and shoulders above us but there has been a fine line between us and Macclesfield and us and Bristol Rovers, who should be challenging to win the league.
"But we can't keep saying that. We have obviously got to turn some of these games into wins. We need to get that first win. It is important and then it just builds everyone's confidence up."
Watson was encouraged by his team's improved defensive display on Saturday but disappointed with the team's positioning in the build up to the winning goal. He said: "We didn't engage the second ball. We didn't do that anywhere near as much as should have done."
Watson admitted that his team had missed the presence of midfielder Mike Grogan, rested because of a back injury.
The boss said: "He gives us a goal threat among other things. Playing and then sitting on a coach for four hour,s it would have certainly ruled him out of today. We made the sensible decision."
