Sean Clancy on the goal trail for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United winger Sean Clancy today vowed to hit the goal trail in the Skrill Conference Premier – whether from the bench or in the starting line-up.
Clancy was in and out of the team during the second half of the Conference North title-winning season, but still managed 12 strikes for the campaign.
The 26-year-old is hoping to be a leading light for the club, as they return to non-league's top flight after a year's absence.
He said: "I am looking forward to it, I have enjoyed knowing I would be here for another season. I signed a two-year contract, because this is not somewhere where I wanted to come and then go.
"I have always seemed to score goals wherever I have been, you can't rely on the strikers all of the time. Everyone has to chip in and it will be no different this season.
"I have got no fears about my ability, I have done well before and I want to show that again, whether that be from a starting position or the bench.
"Wide players and strikers always seem to get rotated. When things need changing, they tend to the players that are replaced first.
"I am never happy to not be in the team or go off, but I accept that it's part of football. It's a squad game these days."
Clancy is the only member in the squad to possess a Premier championship medal, from the 2011-12 season with Fleetwood Town.
He said: "I want to use my experience to help the lads in the team who haven't played much at this level before, like people did with me when I was younger.
"It's going to be tough, I have played in this league and I know what it takes to survive and to win the title. I am the only one here with a Premier winners medal.
"We need to play smart and make ourselves difficult to beat, that's the basis for any success. I want to be as ambitious as I can.
"I wouldn't go into any game to lose, you always have to go in with a plan where you can win and try hard to make it work."
