The Bucks chief has been on the hunt for a new shotstopper since Telford legend Ryan Young departed the club in the wake of their promotion back to the Skrill Premier earlier this month.

And he is today closing in on the capture of a new custodian with considerable experience in the non-league's top flight.

Watson was keeping the identity of his target under wraps but said: "I am very close to signing a goalkeeper. We'd like to get that done in the next 24 hours."

Telford have already signed Southport defender Steve Akrigg and Witton Albion winger Josh Hancock earlier this month.

Defender Dan Preston and midfielder Martyn Jackson have followed Young out o after being released and Benjamin could well be the next to go.

Watson said: "We have given Russell Benjamin permission to talk to Stockport about a possible move away.

"They have enquired and we have allowed it. He just wasn't playing at the back end of the season. I think he spoke to them yesterday so it is a case of how quickly he decides."
