Liam Watson will kick on with AFC Telford
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson believes the only way is up for the club after they were crowned Skrill Conference North champions.
The Bucks won a title for the first time in the new outfit's 10-year history and the first in any guise since 1952, with a 3-0 win at home to Gainsborough Trinity.
Saturday's victory restored them to the Premier at the first attempt after Watson's first season in charge and the Telford boss reckons their promotion is richly deserved.
He said: "I always thought we would win it, from the moment I came here. It's a big moment, especially for people round here. It's great for the locals, considering what else has happened.
"Shrewsbury Town have been relegated and Telford have been promoted. All of a sudden from League One and Conference North there's a league between us.
"We saw a lot of people in tears, which meant a lot to us. From day one, we have been welcomed with open arms by everyone associated with this football club. This is for them.
"Telford deserve to be in the Conference Premier so our target should be to stabilise ourselves there and then kick on."
This season's exploits represents a remarkable third Conference North title for Watson, the only manager to win this league more than once.
But the person the Bucks chief is most delighted for is assistant boss Dominic Morley, who picked up his first championship medal as his No 2.
Watson said: "It's what we do, we have a method and work hard. All bases are covered and people who don't have the same ethic as we do tend not to stay with us.
"I have got the best assistant manager you could ever wish for in Dom and I was desperate to win the league for him. It's his first title and every credit to him.
"It's actually a double, we also won the Shropshire Senior Cup which no-one seems to mention. That was the start of getting us into a winning mentality.
"The secret to our success this season has been honesty, integrity and hard work."
