AFC Telford boss Liam Watson urges Bucks fans to play their part
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today called for the New Bucks Head to "hold its nerve" as the charge for promotion resumes tomorrow.
The Bucks play Oxford City for the first time ever having seen off another relegation-threatened opponent, Histon, 3-2 on home turf last weekend.
An indifferent display still led to three points but there were mixed reactions along the way from supporters, before it all came good at the final whistle.
Watson will expect a better home show from his players this time but wants a united front on and off the field as they look to return to the top of the Skrill Conference North.
He said: "Whether you are at the top or the bottom of the league, it's tough, but sometimes people need to concentrate on results rather than performances.
"There was a bit of tension around the place last weekend, which I can understand, because it's nervous times for everyone associated with the club.
"It's the team that holds their nerve that tends to win, but the fans have got to help us get over the line."
The gap between Telford and North Ferriby remains a slender one point, with the table-toppers facing a potentially-tricky trip to ninth-placed Guiseley.
But Watson knows his side will have to work hard for three pointshaving had to battle last time out to see off a Histon outfit who looked in all sorts of trouble.
The Bucks boss added no result in the 33 league fixtures played has fallen into their lap, making six straight wins and a nine-match unbeaten run all the more impressive.
He said: "There is no easy game in this league, that's a fact, but it's easy to lose matches. I can't think of any win this season we haven't had to work for.
"It's a competitive division and it always been. Since the first season there has probably only been two years where there has been a runaway leader.
"Chester did it last year and Alfreton have done it but there's been lots of titles decided on the last day and there's us two of us fighting for the title."
