AFC Telford's loan star Shaun Whalley lines up two title medals

AFC Telford United winger Shaun Whalley has yet to taste defeat since arriving on loan – and remains on course to pick up two title medals.

The 26-year-old arrived in January and takes in his eighth game for the club in tomorrow's Skrill Conference North game at Stalybridge Celtic.

His terms have been extended to the end of the season because of his impact with the table-topping Bucks, scoring two goals. He's brought a winning mentality with him from Luton Town, who are running away with the Conference Premier having gone 14 points clear at the top.

As it stands, Whalley will double up on the silverware and it could be like queuing for a bus. You wait ages for one, then two turn up at the same time.

He said: "It's been great, so far, and we have been unbeaten since I first came to the club. That's not just down to me, but it's a good thing to enjoy!

"We are top of the league here and it's the same at Luton; I have been used to winning games this year.

"Luton are a long way clear at the top of the league but you never know what can happen in football, so they have to keep concentrating.

"Telford are in title-winning form and the teams are doing really well, which is good for me. A few people have mentioned I may get two medals.

"I haven't won anything yet in my career, so to do that twice in one season would be brilliant. Hopefully, it's going to happen."

Whalley's time in Shropshire is due in no small part to manager Liam Watson, who was reunited with the player for a third time.

He was loaned to Watson's Southport while at Wrexham in 2009, returning to his tutelage at the Sandgrounders in 2011 after spells at Droylsden and Hyde United.

It was the now-Bucks boss who sold him to Luton for an undisclosed but hefty fee last May.

Whalley still hopes to be a success with the Hatters.

"I first signed for Liam a while back, on loan from Wrexham, just for like six months," he said. "I ended up going to Droylsden and then Hyde; he came in for me again.

"For those two-and-a-half years at Southport, I probably played the best football of my career. He's a top manager.

"It hasn't worked out yet for me at Luton but I am hopeful that it will, even though I like playing for Liam.

"I still have another year left on my contract at Luton so, if they go up, I will be in the Football League.

"I want to prove I am good enough to play for them and the manager there, John Still, was great with me when I was struggling for confidence.

"He told me to go out on loan and get back to my best, which I am trying to do by helping Telford.

"In the summer, it's always a new start for everyone and I will be trying to work my way back into the gaffer's plans."

The lure of the New Bucks Head was another factor for Whalley, who is also pals with several of the Bucks squad, including striker and best mate Tony Gray.

He said: "I love the ground, I have always liked playing here when I came with other clubs and I get on well with the lads."
