AFC Telford boss praises Stockport chief

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson believes Stockport County's resurgence is largely down to them having the right manager in place.

The fallen Football League club have won seven and drawn two of their last 10 games, after a plummet down to the Skrill Conference North.

They head to Shropshire tomorrow looking to do the double over Telford at the New Bucks Head, after a 4-2 win at Edgeley Park in November.

But Watson's men defeated another of the league's form sides, Guiseley, the last time they were on home turf two weeks ago, with a 4-2 victory of their own.

Watson is full of praise for the job Alan Lord, a Stockport stalwart with over 10 years service to the club in a variety of roles, has performed since his appointment.

Lord took over from Ian Bogie, who quit after abuse from fans just five games into the season with the team second-bottom of the league, and has led them to 10th.

Telford, Stockport and Barrow, who appointed Darren Edmondson as boss in December, are all looking to bounce back from Conference Premier relegation last season.

He said: "It was a huge rebuild for Stockport in the summer, like it was for us, but Alan Lord knows that football club better than anyone. He knows how to get them moving and they are doing well.

"Barrow are, too, because they have got the right person in charge. I have said time and again that Darren Edmondson is up there with the best manager's in this league."
