AFC Telford target 10 wins for promotion

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today set his side a target of at least 10 wins from the last 15 games for promotion from the Skrill Conference North.

Telford are due to return to action against Stockport County at the New Bucks Head on Saturday, providing the weather doesn't put paid to the fixture.

Last night's game between Wolves' under-21s side and their Norwich City counterparts at the ground last night failed a pitch inspection, after more rain yesterday.

That's left the club hoping their weekend game doesn't go the same way, with a big gate expected for two of the best-attended clubs in the division.

Watson and Co are preparing with the Bucks boss still in the belief 84 points will be enough for the title. However, not even 10 wins from 15 would make that up.

Another four points would be needed for Telford, who are currently fifth with 50, but Watson also challenged his side last week to go unbeaten until the season's end.

He said: "We have got 15 games to go, 15 cup finals and we have got to make sure we win 10 of them, at least. For me, the bigger the game, the more enjoyable it is.

"We just need to make sure we are up for it from the word go and I have said all along that I think 84 points will win the league, so we will take it as it comes.

"Our target is to average two points a game, at present. We haven't managed to do that, as yet, but neither has anyone else."

After Telford's game at Oxford City was postponed at the weekend, Watson travelled to Edgeley Park to make a personal check on Stockport, who beat Stalybridge Celtic 2-0.

The Bucks' were beaten 4-2 on the same ground in November after a calamitous defensive showing, but he feels both sides have improved since then.

He said: "Stockport have been on a good run of form and are winning games so, from our point of view, it may not be a great time for us to play them.

"They have beaten us once this season so we will give them full respect but, as we are home, we need to go out there and get at them quickly.

"I thought we played all right going forward last time but I feel both teams are better since then. Their manager, Alan Lord, has done a good job there."
