Telford pair fit to play against Guiseley

AFC Telford United were today handed a double fitness boost with Chris Lever and Alan Moogan set to return.

The duo are in line to feature in the squad against Guiseley tomorrow to ease the Bucks' defensive headache.

The Bucks are third in the Conference North, but just three points ahead of ninth-placed Colwyn Bay.

And boss Liam Watson has not ruled out calling on defender Lever or midfielder Moogan to get Telford's promotion bid back on track after three winless games.

"We haven't kept enough clean sheets and it's nice to have Chris available," he said. "He trained last Thursday and before the game on Tuesday.

"Chris is a steady Eddie, he's a good defender who probably thinks about defending first than attacking. Nowadays there's always talk about full backs getting forward but I am old school and I like defenders to defend.

"We're playing a lot of games and we need to use all the squad and Alan certainly comes into that bracket. Alan is a very fit late and looks after himself properly and he'll be fine."

Telford are looking to end a three match winless streak which has dented their title challenge, despite taking a point off North Ferriby United in a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

The Bucks are seven points behind Skrill North leaders North Ferriby and six adrift of second-placed Hednesford.

But after conceding five goals in their last three games, Watson insisted they need to address their defensive failings.

He said: "We defend as a team and we attack as a team, if they get down the sides then it means the people in front are not giving enough protection.

"If the opposition are picking passing forward we're not pressing enough from the strikers.

"A few teams were on a good run and the weather put paid to that a little bit. When you don't play for a couple of weeks sometimes you can come back fresh or a little leg heavy.

"There are loads of big games and it's the same for everyone. We've got to get back on a winning run."
