Liam Watson keen to end AFC Telford's trailing trend
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today admitted his side need to eradicate their "trend" of going a goal behind after the "second best" Bucks were beaten by Barrow.
Watson's side suffered a 1-0 defeat at home on Saturday – the sixth Skrill Conference North game in a row where they have conceded first.
They had won their previous three home games after trailing but there was no way back from Sam Sheridan's late strike for Barrow.
It left third-placed Telford four points adrift of Hednesford Town and league leaders North Ferriby United.
The Bucks head to the table-toppers on Saturday and Watson agrees chasing deficits is starting to become their Achilles heel.
He said: "I just think the players need to relax a little bit. You do get that feeling of urgency when you go a goal down, everyone starts doing things a bit quicker.
"I haven't got a clue why it keeps happening. If you are winning games, you shouldn't be conceding the first goal, but it has become a trend."
The heavens opened at the New Bucks Head during play, with Watson conceding it was Barrow who mastered the conditions.
He said: "I think we were second best, there was not enough urgency or energy about us. It was just one of those games, bad conditions and they probably adapted to it better than we did."
