Boss has no fear of AFC Telford fixture pile-up
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson isn't concerned about a fixture pile-up despite losing a second straight game to the weather on Saturday.
Hosts Altrincham called off the fixture that morning, after heavy rain that also put paid to Stockport County's home game against Vauxhall Motors.
Despite being out of action, second-placed Telford didn't lose footing in the Skrill Conference North and only trail league leaders North Ferriby United on goal difference.
Ferriby took a break from their league challenge to stun Conference Premier side Lincoln City 4-0 away from home in the FA Trophy.
Solihull Moors, who are fourth, could have overtaken Telford and the table-toppers, but could only record a goalless draw at home to Leamington.
Telford also saw last Tuesday night's rearranged trip to Worcester City postponed but, even with the call offs, still have only three midweek games to cram in between now and the end of the season.
Watson commented: "Saturday surprised me but, having said that, Stockport's game was off as well. There's nothing we can do, so there's point in making a big deal out of it.
"I am not concerned about the extra games, we will hope to try and get the Alty game played in March and Worcester is next month. We have still played more fixtures than most."
Watson also revealed player-coach Alan Moogan is two weeks away from match fitness after his return from a week of rehabilitation at St George's Park, the Football Association's national centre.
The 29-year-old midfielder will report back there after spending this week with his club, focussing on strengthening work as he nears a full recovery after groin surgery.
Watson said: "It's all very scientific where he has been and we trust what they tell us to do with Alan. He's doing strengthening work with us and then heading back for another week.
"It's taken a bit longer than we would have liked but, when he comes back after that, he should be pretty much match-fit.
"It will massively up his fitness levels and we need to get him on the pitch as soon as possible. It's been nearly five months since he has played.
"But we haven't moaned about him being out, despite him being such a big player for us."
