AFC Telford boss Liam Watson closes in on target
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson is looking to land what would be his first loan signing at the New Bucks Head as the January transfer window gathers pace.
The Bucks boss has yet to borrow players for the Skrill Conference North promotion charge – but is interested in a specific player.
Watson is keeping the identity of his target close to his chest, but it's a Conference Premier attacker who he describes as having "been there, seen it and done it".
The proposed capture is a full-time footballer, so would join for twice-a-week training sessions and matches, and the Telford chief believes he's of high quality.
He said: "He's an attacking player who can operate wide or up top, which would give us another option. We have enquired about a loan move and are waiting for an answer.
"His club are waiting to see if they can get anybody else in; he's full-time, so he would probably train at his club most of the time and then join us for sessions and games. I have no other targets, as such, it's just that this person could become available."
Watson freed up room in his playing budget last month by allowing winger Sean Cooke to rejoin former club AFC Fylde, which could lead to his long-term departure.
He said: "Sean joined them with a view to moving there permanently, but he's only been there for a couple of weeks. We will see where we go."
Telford are in the mix for promotion but Watson expects further contenders to emerge, such as February's visitors Guiseley.
He said: "I still think Guiseley will come out of the pack and challenge. They have been on a great run."
