Mike Phenix has his sights on AFC Telford start
AFC Telford winger Mike Phenix is determined to shake off his 'super-sub' tag – as he is eased back into action after battling the same stomach problem that sidelined Darren Fletcher.
Phenix missed four games this month after collapsing at work and is undergoing regular treatment, but was back with a bang at Hednesford Town on Boxing Day.
The 24-year-old netted the second equaliser in the 3-3 draw against the Skrill North leaders at Keys Park, the fourth goal he has scored from the bench.
But all Phenix really wants is a place in Liam Watson's starting line-up.
He said: "I have just got to kick on now and get myself in the team, I don't really want to be used from the bench. I want to get back to full fitness and help us to win this league.
"I have been suffering for a couple of years with this stomach disease.
"It got really bad about a month ago and I am back on steroids now for about another four to five weeks, but it's getting better.
"It's the same problem Darren Fletcher had.
"Ulcerative colitis it's called, where you don't have as much energy as you would like."
